As If!

I was completing an intake form at a spa I visited yesterday. (Thanks L&D for the gift! It was heavenly…) Normally I can cruise through a form like this in no time. But one question caught my eye.

OCCUPATION: ____________________________

Hmmm…. My typical response? Communications Consultant.

But I paused. Who am I? What energy do I ‘occupy’?

While Communications Consultant sounds sophisticated and accurately describe what I offer in the business world, I longed to scribble down in semi-illegible handwriting “ARTIST”.

“Oh, do you paint?” my choir asked. (p.s. ‘choir’ is the endearing name I’ve given the voices in my head…)

“No,” I replied.

“Then what kind of art?”

What a delicious question…

“I write. I sing. I create works of beauty.”

“As if!” my bass section droned through the base of my neck.

“It’s true,” I smiled, quiet but confidently.
The sopranos piped up, “Oh, we believe you. Now start to act AS IF…”

I got out my pen.

OCCUPATION: Writer. Singer. And may I add, Artist of Life.
