I’m Alive

Yesterday I asked “How are you feeling?” As I drove to work, a voice inside said, “Wait a minute, there’s a more important question…”

Are you feeling?

We live in a society that favours avoidance over feeling. I remember being highly engaged in a work project a few years back when a co-worker said to me, “Paula, you care too much. Just wait… years in this business will numb you.”

I bloody well hope not! The moment I know longer care or feel, please God, take me! If you’ve been near me recently, you’ll notice that I’m highly emotional these days. I can’t seem tell a story without tears… happy tears, sad tears, proud tears, a well-full of tears… all reminding me I’m alive!

A friend sent me this great short film So Happy to Be So Sad. The intro words pulled me in…

Don’t hurt, don’t cry, don’t risk, don’t feel, don’t actually take part. In life that is.

Take an aspirin, take a holiday, take a new job. Go shopping, go eating, go here, go there, go somewhere … somewhere else. Do anything to avoid taking notice.

But what if life were hidden in the heart of EVERY experience? Would you be brave enough to avoid the avoidance? - Nic Askew

We may not always like how we feel… but how good it is to feel. Imagine if you couldn’t… or are you already altering circumstances or stuffing emotions so you don’t? In the heart of every experience, life calls you.

Answer back, “I’m ALIVE!”
