She Can

“Me can’t say that”… “Me not”… “Me can’t do dat.”

My heart drops as I hear these words out of Hanna’s mouth. I realize I cannot insulate my curious and spirited little girl from the human construct of limitation. She’s only two and a bit, and she’s already decided she can’t do certain things. As I lean to kiss her goodnight, I gently remind her that “she can”.

I stroll out her room and through my mind to notice where I’m saying my own version of the same words… Me can’t.

My ego races to remind me that I believe ANYTHING is possible. Yes, ego, that is what you say you believe. But where are you not walking that talk? Where have you decided at a deep level, you can’t?

(My ego stands still…)

Yes, I thought so. Gently I remind her that “she can”.
